The prestigious Balmohan Vidyamandir Trust is a progressive and forward thinking educational institution driven following the ethos of it founder Dadasaheb Rege. The turst has a rural school campus in Talegaon which was envisaged as a place for dialogue and interaction between city and rural children in 1970.
Talegaon has much transformed since and is now a small city. The trust wants to modernise the school in that context whilst maintaining its original rural agenda. The new school will focus on a holistic education that exposes children to nature, agriculture and farm related activities. The existing 28 acres campus has a school building, multipurpose hall, library, guest house and rector's residence, hostel and teachers and staff quarters. The project will retain and modernise these structure with additions and aletrations as required. Additional facilties and functionalities are proposed for new 'agro' school campus included a new school building, animal farms, demo farms, sports and recreational spaces and a visitors circuit.
The pedagogic programme extends to the design creating an eco-sensitive built environment in terms of material choices and resource management. The central quarry collects all the rainwater to become a perenial waterbody around which the entire campus is organised.
