This was a unique opportunity to design a centre for the renowned Yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar. It was a truly enlightening experience to learn how profound knowledge had helped modernise an ancient practice to make it accessible to a wider audience that now spans across the globe. The Iyengar Yogashraya was a natural consolidation of the various initiatives undertaken by many dedicated followers of the Guru in Mumbai for several years
Scope of Service Preliminary design studies., Design Development & detailing, MEP Design including: Electrical, Power, Telecom, HVAC, Plumbing, Security, Access Control, AV systems, Furniture Design., Project Management & Billing. Project Commissioning.
Notable features Specific design solutions to create spaces conducive for the learning & practice of Yoga- soft indirect lighting, adequate fresh-air renewal and most importantly integrating the specially developed ‘props’ by the great Guru. Open plan defining the various spaces in a fluid manner to facilitate public access- reception, foot-wear removal, Library, yoga hall, storage of teaching aids & props, and change rooms Landscape scheme at the entrance to salvage around existing tree.
Highly cost effective specification. Close design coordination with utilities to minimise rework of fit-out & finishes.
