The security posts are part of a larger urban design project of the Girgaum Chowpatty. The project aims to transform Chowpatty Beach into a carefully designed public promenade.
The Girgaum beach experiences a heavy footfall daily and on festivities, the place is packed to the brim. Such a crowd needs proper vigilance and hence a permanent setup of a police booth or a security tower was proposed. The police watchtower will be the point of security and vigilance in the promenade.
