Location: Osaka, Japan

Project Architects Adel Bagli, Karl Mascarenhas.
Design & planning proposal for the urban revival of central Osaka around the development of a defunct Umeda train terminus.
Scope of Service Urban Appraisal; Concept level Master planning; Urban programming; Urban Design with Architectural & Landscape strategies.
Notable features The proposal presents a general reflection on the city in the 21st century. It also responds to specific constraints & opportunities offered by the city and the site.
The built environment is classified in two categories; the enduring institutions, that will lead the revival of the city centre with a strong formal expression and the flexible mix-used buildings that can change, adapt, be re-built as per the fast changing needs of our times.
The City is the media of its own history- the ‘railway’ is the potent theme for landscape design of a large central plaza around which the proposed development happens.
